I loved these books. It has been a while since I read any dystopian fiction. It has been a while since I have read any book, actually -- thanks for that SAT. I missed it. Thankfully though, reading is like riding a bike. At first, it might go slower that before, but you catch back onto your rhythm pretty quickly.
The first book started out kind of slowly, and my understanding of this world took a little longer to sink in, but once you learn all the terms and get used to all the weird names, the world that the author creates, where the Shotet and the Thuvesits are enemies, where Akos and Cyra are standing on opposite sides of the borders, and yet they both have one foot on the other side, opens up to you completely.
You know how you can tell if an author is a really good writer or just has a good imagination? When he/she can write in different points of view and sound like a different person with each new point of view. Veronica Roth is an amazing author. She's shy, gentle but strong-willed for Akos and witty and hard-headed for Cyra.
In a universe where there are nine plantes, oracles, and a central "government" called the Assembly, Akos Kereseth, the son of the sitting oracle of Thuve, and Cyra Noavek, the daughter of the Shotet tyrant, have to survive in a world where the fates seem to have been set against them.
That's really all I can say, apart from the fact that there is a ginormous plot twist in the second book (The Fates Divide), one so grand and mind-blowing that the whole course of the book changes. Read them. They're incredible. I loved them both.
I LOVE YOU ALL. I LOVE YOU ALL. I LOVE YOU ALL.
