This book falls under the category of my favorite book; this book and "We All Looked Up" also by Tommy Wallach, are my two absolute favorite books, because there is no author like Tommy Wallach and there are no books like his books.
"Saudade: It's the sadness you feel for something that isn't gone yet, but will be. The sadness of lost causes. The sadness of being alive. - Thank for the Trouble, Tommy Wallach
I truly believe that there are people who are just meant to be. Tommy Wallach is one of those people.
I know there are people who struggle in life, to live. I mean there are days when I don't know if I can deal with the day ahead of me, but then again, everybody has those days. And yet I know that there are thousands of people around the world who struggle with having to keep breathing. This quote, addresses you, whoever you guys are, that struggle to get up and keep going.
This book is one of the best books I have ever read. In a way, it deals with the circle of life, and how little we appreciate our mortal existence. It's about a kid, Parker, who's been dealt a crap hand in life, and one day, he meets Zelda. The weirdest, most beautifully eccentric person he has ever met, in the most unconventional way ever. This story, is realistic-ish with a magical air about it (I've learned that it's called magical realism); it is something that could happen and yet it could not. It presents the world in the bleak eyes of Parker and in the technicolor vision of Zelda.
Thanks for the Trouble gives hope as much as it deadpans some of the realities of life.
"Love is the exception to the law of diminishing returns."
Zelda has lived for 250 years, and has experienced everything there is to experience and is just absolutely tired of life. Then she meets Parker, a kid who doesn't speak because he refuses to; it intrigues her, he intrigues her. She hasn't felt that way in a long time now. Love is the exception to the law of diminishing returns. Which is why her plan has to happen before she falls in love with Parker, because then, she won't be able to do it.

I LOVE YOU ALL. I LOVE YOU ALL. I LOVE YOU ALL.
